The American Association of Interchurch Families (AAIF) met at Virginia Wesleyan College for its biennial conference. We enjoyed a variety of presentations, discussions, meals and worship services together. Perhaps most appreciated were the individual conversations we had with each other. New members were encouraged to find that other families have similar experiences involving two Christian traditions. Existing members re-acquainted themselves with friends and reaffirmed their enthusiasm for serving God with a broad family perspective. We all enjoyed a fellowship of families in closer union with the Lord.
The agenda of the conference and an overview are available.
The Catholic Virginian, the newspaper of the Diocese of Richmond, has published their article on the conference.

The American Association of Interchurch Families gave the Ecumenical Vision Award to the Church of the Holy Apostles, Virginia Beach, on Friday, July 21, 2006. This unique parish in the United States has nurtured and kept before all the churches their visible sign of unity in diversity in ways that challenge all of us to strive for ongoing ecumenical progress toward the restoration of full communion with one another. For their work, they have earned the esteem of the AAIF and the Ecumenical Vision Award.
Ecumenical Leadership Award
On Friday, July 21, 2006, The American Association of Interchurch Families awarded Father Ernest (Ernie) R. Falardeau, SSS, the Ecumenical Leadership Award. Father Ernie is a scholar, a pastor and a great friend to the American Association of Interchurch Families.
As a scholar, he has earned his STD in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He has written for Catholic periodicals and published books on the Eucharist from an ecumenical point of view: "One Bread & Cup: Source of Communion"; "A Holy and Living Sacrifice"; and "The Eucharist in Christian Perspective."
Father Ernie served the Archdiocese of Santa Fe as the Director of Ecumenical and Inter religious Affairs for 24 years until 2003. He was President of the North American Academy of Ecumenists and past president of the National Association of Diocesan Ecumenical Officers (NADEO).
Father Ernie has shown great interest in Interchurch families and couples by acting as an advisor to us at national and international meetings in Rome, Virginia Beach, Santa Fe, Omaha and Edmonton.
He is a scholar, a pastor and a great friend to the American Association of Interchurch Families. For this, we honor him with the AAIF Ecumenical Leadership Award.
