We Remember - Dick Long
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of a true friend of interchurch families, DICK LONG of Albuquerque on Thursday, February 2, 2006. His wife, HEDDY, worked in the Family Life Office of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, and Dick was there with her as they actively worked on all things ecumenical, in particular, organizing and leading the interchurch family group in that area. We extend our sympathies to the Long family and all that were a part of their extended family. Dick will be missed but never forgotten. In the words of Fr. Falardeau, "He was a wonderful friend and a very dedicated apostle of ministry to families."

Diocese of Charleston
Interchurch Family Workshop
October 5 - 6, 2007The Diocese of Charleston will be holding a Workshop for Interchurch Families in Columbia, SC. The talks, panel discussions, and interactive sessions will take place at Our Lady of the Hills Parish on Friday and Saturday, October 5 - 6, 2007. The event is being coordinated by Bill and Beverly Collins (803-643-9651, bbcollins@earthlink.net) who are active in their local Baptist and Catholic churches. They have provided additional information on the workshop. (Will they really talk about Protestants and Catholics who sleep together??)
2007 National Workshop on
Christian Unity (NWCU)In 1963, a group of Roman Catholics, in the context of Vatican II, saw a need to equip local leadership for the task of ecumenical ministry. In 1969, they invited leaders of other Christian communions to join them, and today the national ecumenical officers of the churches continue their oversight of the workshop, which is planned by national and local committees. The workshop is sponsored by the National Association of Ecumenical Officers. There are both denominational and ecumenical sessions during the workshop.
The 2007 NWCU was held on the shore of the Potomac River across from Washington, D.C., from Jan. 29 - Feb. 1, 2007. Several hundred attendees learned of the latest ecumenical developments, heard from national leaders about the progress of ecumenism, talked with those active in local communities, and attended seminars on a wide variety of topics. Mary Jane Glauber represented the AAIF, talking to many folks who dropped by the AAIF booth to learn about interchurch families.
